Genealogy Resources
When you research your family history, you will need to use many different types of records, including birth records, death records, military records, and immigration records. Searching for each record can be difficult and time-consuming. Luckily, there are two major databases that can make your search much easier.
Ancestry.com is the "world's largest family history resource." The site provides access to many different types of records, including birth, marriage, death, Census, and immigration records, and also connects you with a community of users that can help you with your research. Ancestry requires a subscription. Your local public or university library may have a subscription for patrons with a library card. Please note that Ancestry does not allow off-campus or remote access for library subscription users. For information on using Ancestry, check out the Using Ancestry.com page. FamilySearch is a nonprofit family history organization affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They provide access to many of the same records as Ancestry. The site is free to use. You also can seek help at a local FamilySearch Center or get expert help over the phone. For information on using FamilySearch, check out the Using FamilySearch page. There are a lot of government records available online. You can find immigration records, military records, and much more. For information about finding these records, visit the Using Government Records page. Click Next to start learning about Ancestry. |
